Bohemia cinema. located on a large island site of tally ho! corner at 707 high road north finchley. tally ho! corner was the terminus for the trams in this part of north london and in later years became the terminus for the trolly buses, which encircled the building. the site was created in the 1930’s for a road widening scheme and in may. Gaumont, north finchley. the gaumont, a lovely art deco building, opened in 1937 and closed in 1980. this publication traces its history and also of the other cinemas in the area. this publication is a4 format with 21 pages and nineteen photographs. price £2 plus 50p postage and packing. Barnet. 008 the swan and pyramids, north finchley high road in the 1950's. the pub is still there, but this rather nice building (also seen in pic 001) was demolished and replaced with yet another execrable example of modern architecture. the cars on the forecourt show that the picture was taken sometime in the mid, or late 1950's. The gaumont was designed by w. e. trent, architect the gaumont british picture corporation, with the assistance of his son w. sydney trent and r. golding, and built by mclaughlin & harvey. the electrical engineer was s. hart. it was opened by the mayor of finchley in 1937 and closed in 1980. Huge gaumont cinema in finchley,north london. the gaumont was a 2,200 seater and a part of me died when they took the wrecking ball to the cinema. now in it’s place is a bus depot,an arts centre and a whole apartment block. it was wonderful seeing sierra baron on that huge screen. sadly the two wretched euro dvd’s available are horrible low.
